Meet your TEAM.

The contractual, technical and commercial experts with first-hand experience of the auditing tactics used by software vendors.

Nick Preston Commercial

Nick is the co-founder of Cerno. He is an experienced negotiator with over 30 years’ experience in the software field.  He was VP EMEA for both Stratus and Egenera and commercial director of deliverydotcom.  In 2012 he took on a role dealing with the restructuring of enterprise-wide software license agreements with Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, VMWare, SAP and Adobe before forming Cerno in 2013.  Nick’s role is to liaise closely with the client, guide and direct, translate and collate complex technical and legal advice and also to negotiate very strongly to obtain the best price, once the necessary license position has been established.

Tim Sewart Tech

Tim co-founded Cerno.  He is a lawyer who specialises in complex and high value technology transactions and disputes.  Having spent over six years as the Chief Executive Officer of a Health-Tech business, Tim is able to bring commercial dimension to his advice.  Very few UK lawyers have comparable commercial expertise to Tim.  ‘He receives praise from clients for his “ability to listen and come up with solutions,” and for being “technically and commercially brilliant,” with one admiring source noting that “he’s one of the best I’ve ever come across in terms of IT.”‘ Chambers and Partners UK.

Robin Fry IP

Robin is a leading software licensing lawyer, having headed the Intellectual Property team at a major city law firm for over 15 years.  He has written extensively on software IP matters and is quoted in Computer Weekly, Financial Times, Computing, PC World, IT Pro, ITAM and CIO. His thought leadership and forensic analysis are highly influential for clients, in displacing apparently fixed positions of the global software vendors.

Licensing Experts

All our software licensing experts have a history of working within their respective software companies. They know the technical issues and opportunities and also understand what is and is not possible from a technical perspective.
