MICROSOFT VENTURES INTO USER-BASED PRICING

Microsoft has announced changes to its Enterprise Cloud Solutions bundle (which includes Office365, Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS) and a new Windows Software Assurance) facilitating licensing per user – rather than an historic device-based metric.

ECS is available for organisations with more than 250 users. The move is described as  beneficial in that ‘You save by licensing users rather than devices, which is valuable in a world where employes often carry more than one device’.

Only the user’s primary work PC needs to be running a qualified OS (ie Windows Pro).

This is the first time that Microsoft has licensed Windows on a user-basis outside its cloud-based Office365 offering.
