Earlier this month German multinational software corporation SAP pushed forward a new cloud platform. This new platform is aimed at helping companies which are working on creating new blockchain-based applications. The platform’s goal is to create a framework that firms can use when developing business applications which are integrated with blockchain systems.

We also know that Amazon Web Services recently announced Blockchain Templates to compete with Oracle and IBM. The launch of so many “blockchain-as-a-service” offerings shows just how eager software corporations are to capture this new market segment.

As we observe this latest investment of a high-tech company in what previously was essentially an open source initiative, we can’t help but thinking that this is somehow similar to Ford, BMW and Mercedes all getting into the electric car segment. Rather than the initial ethical and social goals that motivated the appearance of these technologies, it is now a more revenue focused objective that is driving business decisions.
